check your teabagsUnfortunately, to the surprise of most consumers, some tea bags contain polypropylene plastic. This means that they shouldn't be composted unless the plastic is removed. However, now due to consumer demand most companies are transitioning to a compostable bag! In the meantime, I'm now trying to make more of an effort to use loose leaf tea because it produces less waste and the flavor is better. I don't have a proper strainer at home so I use my French Press. If I take the time to clean it for coffee, then why shouldn't I take the time for tea! Below I've listed the brands that do and don't contain plastic elements.

BYOP (bring your own products) water bottle, thermos, TupperwareAlthough you have to plan ahead and bring a water bottle to the airport or a thermos to work every small action adds up. Help keep our oceans free of unnecessary plastic. The US consumes 1 500 plastic water bottles EVERY SECOND. We can do better.

1. Don't boil more water than you need! more energy, more money, more resources wasted
2. Purchase smaller quantities, more often less food is wasted when there is less food to begin with
3. Make a trip to the farmers market get excited about seasonal eating
4. Plan your meals be mindful of what you purchase and use up the food in your fridge
